TR: Asia Trip 2015 – Part 4: Yas Water-everything (Waterworld, Beach) (10/19/15)

In a busy trip like this one, you still need to try to find some time to relax. Sometimes that means you stress in advance about scheduling in the luxury of nothingness. Near to the hotel on Yas Island was our other main target for being in Abu Dhabi – Yas Waterworld. Meredith and I once more boarded the complementary Yas Island transportation after some room service and headed over to Yas Waterworld for opening. Tickets aren’t cheap – $62 a head – but you get a solid amount for your money in terms of slides, lazy rivers, and so on. TR: Asia Trip 2015 – Part 2: Ferrari World & Yas Mall (10/17-10/18/15)

Following a 90 minute cab ride through the center of Dubai and the desert, we wound up at our first place of lodging, the Yas Viceroy. Few hotels are as iconic of the region as this one, a futuristic, almost gelatinous looking freeform design covered in color changing LED lights, surrounded by the Yas Marina F1 circuit. Our room was a “basic” deluxe room with a balcony overlooking the track, plenty of space, and a super futuristic bathroom complete with square toilet. There’s a number of restaurants inside, but we had kinda decided to try to stay away from any absurdly fancy meals during this segment of the trip. Not that we didn’t want to eat anything really good, it was simply an issue of cost vs. return. Yes, there’s good food here, but it is often not really “local” cuisine and it is super expensive. Even when discussing the possibility of Emirati cuisine, we were consistently told by everyone to eat Lebanese food which is available consistently throughout our home state of Michigan.
