TR: Cedar Point Opening Weekend (5/10 – 5/12/13)

I’ve said a great many things over the years about Cedar Point, ranging all over the map. So I shall continue that trend this year by completely doing a 180 degree turn on our opinions from last year. Last year, we concluded that Cedar Point was improving in ways we liked and that we were enjoying each visit more and more. Opening weekend 2013 took us in the opposite direction. It has us recalling how we felt during our “dark period” for the park, AKA the long period we didn’t go.

Part of this was certainly Cedar Point’s fault. Things could have been done differently in many places and in different ways. Things should be better in many respects in arenas in which they do business. Part of this is also us as people. A little over a week before stepping foot in the Roller Coaster Capital of The World, we were in the midst of a grandiose and luxurious European vacation. These are very different things, Cedar Point and, you know, Sicily. But that doesn’t mean they can’t both be good.

Cedar Point (& Kalahari) Trip Report (9-1+9-2-08)

It was exactly a year after our prior attempt at my fiancee and I making peace with the peninsula out on the coast of Lake Erie. Last year, we stayed on property at Breakers in an old room and encountered some crowds. Really big crowds. To summarize, Cedar Point was really busy, not very fun, the amenities lacked, and the room sucked. You’d think this would have sworn us off for life!

Well, c’mon. I’m just a negative a-hole sometimes. We had fun…sitting on benches or when actually on attractions. Just not in line, which is where a way-too-big portion of our day was spent. Fast forward a year. Now we are trying to keep our costs down to some extent and want a trip around Labor Day. Initally, it looks like Knoebel’s along with other stuff. Then it turns out that the Red Roof in Danville ain’t so cheap anymore: It was once a $54 a night max, now running around the $100 a night mark. As an experienced patron, its no $100 a night motel. Nor did the 9 hours of driving, cost of gas, and so on appeal much. Cedar Point, however, had a $25 special for former employees as part of a reunion weekend. Hotel rooms off property were pretty cheap, and for what you get, especially so at the indoor waterpark resorts. The previous concept was tossed out and Cedar Point was in.

TR: Cedar Point + Michigan State Fair (9/1-9/3/2007)

I know, I know….like the world needs another CP TR. But this is a multifaceted TR, because not only do I talk about CP, I also talk about a pair of fairs. One I actually rode stuff at, the other had me walking out the door in a few seconds flat. But enough of the preamble.
